Hamlet! Film! DVD!
posted on: Thursday, June 11th 2009 @ 3:58am
Sometimes I'm glad I have insomnia because I stumble across news I've missed like THIS. The Royal Shakespeare Company is going to film last year's production of Hamlet for broadcast on BBC Two later this year, AND it will be released on DVD! As far as I can tell it's the entire original cast, including David Tennant and Patrick Stewart. I do hope it's the same girl who played Ophelia because she was damn amazing. It's an utterly brilliant production and I'm glad they're committing it to film! Also people who missed the run will be able to catch it. I barely got tickets myself--the run was sold out so in an insane gambit I took a one-way train to Stratford-upon-Avon with my boyfriend (who was visiting me in London at the time) and we queued outside the theatre in intermittent rain for six hours. We finally got a pair of returned tickets, 20 quid each, about an hour before showtime. That was just enough time to walk to the nearest bed & breakfast to reserve a room and to stop for a pint at the pub to celebrate our blind luck. After the show we took in a few more pints and our dinner wound up being cheap Chinese takeaway from one of the few places still open. It was bloody glorious.
Conan O'Brien, how are you so awesome?

This is one of the greatest things I've seen this week. Apparently Conan O'Brien's new Tonight Show backdrop is a dead-on copy of some Super Mario levels. They might address it in the show according to a Twitter post, so I most definitely need to wait and see. Also: new Burn Notice tonight!

Pervert waggled his genitals at me on the escalator in the train station downtown this morning. Too weighed down by bags to punch him as hard as I would have liked (oh but punch him I did) and too fucking groggy at 6 fucking AM to remember to kick him down the escalator before he walked away. I am far more disappointed in the fact that I didn't actually hurt him than at the fact that I was flashed at. Perhaps it is time to invest in pepper spray or some sort of hand-to-hand weapon. This is only slightly less traumatic than the kid who felt me up at a bus stop a few years ago and pulled a fake gun on me. WHAT THE FUCK, WORLD D:

SGA Movie Poster!
posted on: Thursday, May 14th 2009 @ 9:07pm
I finished my SGA movie poster for class a few weeks back, but almost forgot to put it up :3 So here's what an Atlantis movie poster could look like for the proposed post-series movie (the blank bit at the bottom is where credits would go): ( The Long Way Home... )I also caught Star Trek again tonight--it's just as awesome the second time around! And I'm home in time for the Supernatural season finale to boot after a tasty chicken tikka dinner. Life is good :)
They don't list your show because it like, sucks ass.

Hearing The Flanigan say, "I gotta blow, homes" made my day. I actually enjoyed the Jace Hall Show overall and might go back and check out previous episodes. It has the ADD pacing of Japanese television, complete with big colorful letters splashing the screen. Also the host didn't annoy me, unlike other video game shows out there (I'm looking at you, X-Play!). Surely this has spread like wildfire by now, but the video can be streamed at Jace Hall and Wraithfodder, or downloaded here. Star Trek is tonight!! I have tickets for the 10:30pm show, followed by a geeky discussion fest at the nearest 24-hour eatery. We've even got landing party shirts! I will be rocking the science officer blue.

I finally got one of those newfangled Dreamwidth codes (thanks chandri !) so I'm monkey_junkey over there as well. I will definitely continue to torture you all with my inanity on LiveJournal, as the two services appear to be exactly the same to me thus far. But I wanted to reserve an account over there in case all of you lot ever jump ship. Plus everyone else seems to be doing it; it's a wonder I never took up smoking. Anyway, please go ahead and add me! And if you've got an account there too, give me a shout so I can add you too :) As for more fun things, do check out my latest Stargate!latte and my sweet new SGC-issue Blackberry under the cut :D ( Everything's coming up Stargate )

More Latte "Art"

Because thedeadlyhook challenged me to, I have committed the face of the Necronomicon to latte form. No tiny undead started springing forth from the foam, I'm afraid.

Stargate: Latte!

It is entirely possible that I might, on occasion, have too much time on my hands at work. Case in point, the stargate latte: (That is caramel sauce for the glyph btw.) Now I have to think of other geeky cracktastic things to draw in my latte foam! I wonder if I can draw all nine chevrons around the circumference... Also, for any Torchwood fans out there who aren't already aware, Ask Captain Jack is the most hilarious LJ ever. Captain Jack offers sage 51st century advice for our 21st century problems, including this gem about what to cook for dinner tonight. Google tax isn't real? Who knew?

I got your packet, bluespirit_star , thanks so much for the CD! I should just give Quantum Mechanix my bank account routing number and let them take all the money they need. Stargate coasters! Which I shall refer to as coastergates! I'll have to get a closer look at the maquettes before deciding whether I want to dump a ton of money into those or not. My classes are winding down at the end of the month and I should have more time for a bit before summer classes start up. I am so behind on fandom stuff! I've got all my Comic-Con stuff handled though, so I will be down in San Diego on the 24th to the 26th. In the meantime, have a fun out-of-context screenshot! I totally watched The Game again last night; that episode brings me an unreasonable amount of joy.
SGA hi-res image repost
posted on: Tuesday, March 31st 2009 @ 5:06pm
It looks like the hi-res images for the SGA DVD design contest are no longer available, so I'm reposting the images here for anyone who missed out on them. The original zip files are over 100 MB, so I've divided the pictures into more manageable downloads. Just gimme a shout if the files disappear and I'll repost.

Help Name the SGA Movie! (sort of)
posted on: Friday, March 27th 2009 @ 6:00am
Dearest flist, might I enlist your help? My final project for Photoshop II is to design a hi-res movie poster for a movie I'd like to see, and I'm doing mine for the Stargate Atlantis movie that is supposed to follow the series (but who knows when/if it will be made). Thing is, I'm having trouble coming up with a good title. This is where you guys come in, because you are all prolific and smart and awesomely creative! Please throw lots of title ideas at me! It doesn't have to follow the show's storyline, it could be a concept you'd want to see in a SGA movie, or just something that sounds cool as a title -- there are no bad suggestions. If you want to pass this request along to anyone on your flist who might want to contribute, feel free to send them this way! I'll take all the help I can get. Thanks! Here are a few ideas I scribbled down during class: - Battle for Pegasus
- The Ancient Wars- The Lantean Liberation- Crossing the Rubicon (total cliché, but it's a phrase I've always enjoyed) - Until the Stars Turn Cold (yoinked from the JMS run of Amazing Spider-Man) - The Long Way Home (this makes sense to me based on the finale but I hesitate to use it because it is also the title of astridv and rheanna27 's brilliant fan comic) Also, for the Photoshoppers and image collectors out there, MGM released an excellent hi-res image pack for their Atlantis By Design DVD cover contest, available as a download here (it's what I'll probably use for the poster). Grab it in case you haven't already! The pack contains excellent 300 dpi images of the main cast and the Pegasus gate, and they even released a secondary pack that includes the Season 5 promo pictures before they were made to look stupid!

Dear Sci-Fi Channel, you guys are turds.

Sci-Fi Channel to rebrand as Syfy Channel.Remember how the general consensus is that network executives are about as dumb as a pile of rocks? Well, that article is going to reinforce it. Apparently, Sci-Fi is considered too limited a term because it " didn’t capture the full landscape of fantasy entertainment: the paranormal, the supernatural, action and adventure, superheroes" -- so they replaced it with the exact same damn word, just spelled in a completely retarded manner. The current head of the network had this to say regarding the new name: If I were texting, this is how I would spell it. Excellent defense, sir! Way to predicate it on your being too lazy to make one extra keystroke on your mobile phone. Two at most, if you really want that hyphen in there. Humanity, I weep for it.
Taste the Waffles Cosmic
posted on: Thursday, March 5th 2009 @ 4:44pm
For any comic book fans on my flist with a high crack tolerance, I bring you my homework for the week for Photoshop class. It was supposed to be a "composite image of a recent dream" but I generally don't remember mine (except for the ones involving black ops sniping :P), so I commandeered l33t1701 's cracky ass dream about Galactus eating cosmic waffles. As the stock photography for Galactus and waffles are easily obtained, I went with that for the assignment. ( Cosmic Waffles under cut )

I love my dentist; she is one of the nicest, most selfless people in the world. I had some pain and swelling in my jaw over the weekend and needed to see her, so she came in on her DAY OFF just to see me. She examined me and took an x-ray but told me I would have to see an endodontist because I have an infection sitting in a root where I previously had a root canal. She didn't charge me for the visit, only charging $10 for a bottle of uber oral rinse to help keep the infection in check.
However I don't have insurance at the moment and seeing an endodontist is pretty damn expensive. So in a sorta-well-timed coincidence I start work tomorrow in a coffee shop that will provide said benefits. (It's a Starbucks competitor, hereafter referred to as not!Starbucks.) The game plan is to wait for the benefits to kick in before seeing the endo, and assume/hope the infection doesn't freakishly spread to my brain and kill me. Dr. Nice Dentist says I can reasonably wait for the benefits as long as the pain doesn't become completely unbearable.
In the meantime I will try to kill it with scotch. Good plan all around, that. And on the plus side, I get to eat more soup. Mmm, soup.

New Life Goal: FLIGHTSUIT UP.

I want to do this someday: Zero-G Parabolic FlightsIt is a flight on a modified Boeing 727 cargo carrier flown by specially trained pilots. As the plane flies in the shape of a parabola, passengers can feel Martian gravity, Lunar gravity, and complete weightlessness. The price tag is US$5,000, but that includes pre-flight training, a FLIGHTSUIT YOU CAN KEEP, post-flight party and DVD of the flight. I think it's a neat deal actually! The next scheduled flight near me is in July from San Jose--I can't cough up five grand by then, but I figure if I start saving bit by bit, I can afford the flight in a few years' time. WHO IS WITH ME?
